Frequently asked questions

What is a portrait relief?

A relief is a sculpted likeness raised from a flat surface, so the face reads as three dimensional yet stays part of the urn. It gives a photograph real depth and invites touch, rather than sitting flat behind glass.

What photograph works best?

A clear, well lit, front facing portrait produces the finest relief. A sharp, higher resolution image with the face unobstructed gives the best result.

What sizes are available?

Three sizes: Mini Keepsake and Keepsake for a symbolic or shared portion of remains, and a Full Size urn sized for a complete set of cremated remains. See Tazbear sizes at a glance.

What finishes can I choose?

The Wood Series (Willow, Walnut, and Driftwood) and the Copper Series (Cathedral, Midnight, and Heirloom). Each finish changes both the look and the feel of the piece.

How much does an urn cost?

Full size urns start at $210. The final price depends on the size and finish you select. An optional inscription may be added for $15.

When am I charged, and how does the process work?

After you submit your design, you will receive a model of your urn to review. You will not be charged until you approve the model. Once your model is approved, production begins and your selected shipping speed applies.

Can my order be rushed?

Every urn is made to order, and our turnaround is fast. Once you approve your model, wood finishes typically produce in 1 to 3 business days and copper in 2 to 6, before your chosen shipping speed begins. If you have a service date, email Chris@tazbear.com or call (585) 629-8406 before ordering, and Christopher, a licensed funeral director, will tell you honestly whether we can meet it.

Can I add an inscription?

Yes. You may add a personalized inscription during design for an additional $15.

Can I order an urn for a pet?

Yes. A portrait relief can be created for a beloved pet from a photograph, just as it is for a person. Learn more about pet memorial urns.

How is my photograph used?

Your photograph is used solely to create your relief and to fulfill your order. It is not shared or used for any other purpose, and we will delete it on request. Read our privacy policy.

Can I plan ahead?

Yes. Whether you are planning in advance or facing a loss today, you are welcome to design an urn or reach out with any questions.

I need help designing. Can someone assist me?

Absolutely. Christopher Tasber, a licensed funeral director, is glad to help. You can reach him at Chris@tazbear.com or by phone at (585) 629-8406.
